Start Up
Plug in the battery, and press the up/pwr button to turn on the device.
On power on, the Setup Tool will open in centering mode, to quickly allow servos to be centred for builds.
Selecting a Function
The Setup Tool has many features to aid the build of any model. These are:
To access the ‘Select Function’ page, press and hold the middle select/function (Sel/Fnc) button, and use the buttons either side to scroll through the different options, and also to access the configuration page.
Centring Mode
Using the buttons, the position of the servo can be adjusted, with a single press increasing/decreasing by 200uS. Alternatively, holding the buttons will scroll the value up and down. To reset to centre (1500uS), the middle button can be pressed once. For servos that centre at 1520uS, a second press of the Sel/Fnc button will toggle this.
Sweep Mode
When in sweep mode, the Setup Tool will make a servo travel from one set endpoint to another to exercise/burn in a servo. These endpoints can be set using the side buttons. The ‘down’ button allows the low end point to be set, whilst the ‘up’ button allows the high end point to be set. Once in the setting screen, use the up and down buttons to adjust the end points, and use the select button to confirm the new end point and go back to the main sweep screen. The speed of the sweep can also be altered. This can be changed by pressing the centre button (select), and using the up and down buttons to get to the desired speed, and once again pressing the select button to confirm the speed.
Measuring Mode
When in measuring mode, the input needs to come not from a battery, but from a receiver. Plug the Setup Tool into any ppm channel on your receiver, turn it on and set it Measuring Mode, and it will display the pulse width provided by the receiver.
Current Mode
Similar to the Measuring Mode, in Current Mode the Setup Tool is to be plugged in line between the receiver (in any standard port) and the servo, and the basic current screen is displayed, showing real time current draw of the servo, as well as the input voltage and pulse width. Using the side buttons, the screen can be toggled between the basic display, a capacity/current draw display that shows the average current draw (A) and the consumption used (C), as well as still showing the real time current reading. The third display shows a graph of the current draw, highlighting any current spikes. On any screen, the centre button can be pressed to reset the device, clearing the graph, and putting the consumption/average draw back to 0mah.
Angle Mode
When in angle mode, the screen displays the angle of the device, as well as the chord length and deflection of the surface. The centre button will set the angle to 0, and moving the device will give the angle. Using the side button will adjust the length of the chord (displayed in the top right) in order to correctly calculate the throw.
RPM Mode
Plug the input side of the Setup Tool into the tachometer port of the ignition unit The side buttons cycle through the RPM mode, real time RPM, Max RPM and Min RPM. To access the RPM mode quicker once the engine is running, press and hold the ‘Down’ button on power up.
Configuration
The Setup Tool has many different settings that can be changed to suit personal preferences. These are :
-
Servo Centre
-
Servo Low Point
-
Servo High Point
-
Output Rate
-
Current Limit
-
RPM Source
-
Auto Off
-
Batt Type
Use the Up/Down buttons to scroll through the different settings, and the select button to edit the highlighted parameter. Once a parameter has been selected, the side buttons are then used to scroll through the options, and confirmed with the centre button. Once the configurations are set, scroll down to the save option and select it. Selecting the factory option will return the settings to factory default.
Power Off
To power off the device, scroll down to the power off option on the fiction list to instantly turn it off. Alternatively, the device auto-powers off after a set time (defined in Configurations page)
